Microsoft's new Windows App: Features and Cloud plans

Windows App running on a laptop

Microsoft has introduced a versatile Windows app available on iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Windows, and web browsers. However, the preview version isn't accessible on Android at the moment.

It centralizes Windows streaming from various sources like remote PCs, Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, Microsoft Dev Box, and Remote Desktop Services.

Windows App: Key Features

Key features include support for multiple monitors, custom display resolutions, scaling, and device redirection for peripherals like webcams, storage devices, and printers.

It acts as a customizable home screen for Microsoft's Cloud PC services, enhancing the remote experience with optimizations for Microsoft Teams. The company's move towards cloud-based Windows, initially seen with Windows 365 for commercial users, suggests a broader plan to bring this shift to consumers as well.

The Windows App may pave the way for accessing cloud PCs and Windows apps on devices without Microsoft's OS.
